Question: Libby, should I change the locks on my new home? Answered by Libby Guthrie

Video Transcript

Hi, I’m Libby Guthrie with Keller Williams Realty in Northern California. And I’m going to talk today about whether or not you should get your locks changed when you obtain your new home, whether it be a brand new home or a resale home.

So a lot of times my clients will tell me, well, Libby, the sellers gave me all the keys and I trust them. And, I don’t feel like I need to go to the expense of getting a locksmith out here or going to the hardware store and changing the locks myself.

And, or if you had a brand new home and the builder gave you the key and you feel that that’s safe. So, I always tell people, no matter what, get those locks changed because, and, or the keys changed because you never know who had a copy of that key.

For example, on a resale home, the seller may have given a relative a copy of the key or given the key to a vendor to do some maintenance in the home. Or a cleaning person to do the cleaning in the home, and you don’t know if those people ever made copies of that key. So always go ahead and get your locks changed even on a brand new home because it just is a peace of mind that you need to do just to make sure, just to be on the safe side.

So if you have any questions regarding buying or selling a home in general, I’ll be happy to help you out, even if it’s not in the Northern California area as I know quite a few agents all over the country.

My number is (925) 628-2436. Thanks.

Here's the big question: Would you rather…⁣
⁣
🅰 Pay less for a home today with a higher mortgage rate?⁣
OR⁣
🅱 Wait and pay more for a home with a lower rate?⁣
⁣
👉 If you're unsure, consider this: Buying at a lower price (even with a higher mortgage rate) can mean less competition and a chance to refinance later if rates drop.⁣

Which would you choose? Let us know in the comments! 💬⁣
